1. Maintain landscape - over-grown trees or hedges should be trimmed out.
2. Remove climbing aids from your yard when not in use such as ladders, pile of bricks, etc.
3. Create a deterrent - Planting prickly plants inside the fence line and below windows
4. Install automatic outdoor front door, porch or deck lighting.  Apply recommended lighting control devices.
5. Automate Lights, TVs, or Radios with module/appliance control devices when arriving home after dark or going away on extended vacation.
6. Stay Alert! If you have an isolated driveway or path - use gravel, the noise of someone walking on it can alert you to their presence.
7. Use multi-point locks and hinges on your doors and windows.
8. Install smoke detectors on every floor and in each bedroom; smoke detectors can also be monitored along with your alarm system.
9. Ask a neighbor to collect your mail and newspaper when going away on extended vacation.
10. Look first when answering the door and teach your kids to do the same.
